Holter Monitoring at Global Cardiac Center

Continuous Heart Monitoring for Accurate Diagnosis
Holter Monitoring is a crucial diagnostic tool for capturing and analyzing the heart’s electrical activity over an extended period. At Global Cardiac Center, we use Holter monitoring to provide continuous and comprehensive data on your heart’s rhythm, helping diagnose and manage various cardiac conditions effectively.
What is Holter Monitoring?
Holter Monitoring is a type of ambulatory electrocardiography that records the heart’s electrical activity continuously, typically over 24 to 48 hours. It involves wearing a small, portable device called a Holter monitor that captures the heart’s rhythm and electrical signals throughout your daily activities.
Why is Holter Monitoring Important?
Extended Monitoring: Unlike a standard ECG that records the heart’s activity for just a few minutes, Holter monitoring provides continuous data, capturing irregularities that may occur intermittently.
Diagnosing Arrhythmias: It is particularly useful for detecting arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats) and assessing their frequency and duration, which may not be apparent during a short-term test.
Evaluating Symptoms: Holter monitoring helps correlate symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness, or fainting with heart activity, providing a clearer picture of your cardiac health.
Assessing Treatment Efficacy: It allows for the evaluation of how well current treatments are working and helps guide adjustments to improve heart health.

How Does Holter Monitoring Work?
- Preparation: During your appointment, small electrodes will be attached to your chest using adhesive patches. These electrodes are connected to a small, portable Holter monitor that you will wear for the duration of the test.
- Wearing the Monitor: You will carry the monitor in a pouch or strap it around your waist. It is important to go about your normal daily activities to ensure that the monitoring captures your typical heart rhythm.
- Data Collection: The monitor continuously records your heart’s electrical signals and stores the data for later analysis. You will be asked to keep a diary of your activities and any symptoms you experience during the monitoring period.
- Returning the Monitor: After the monitoring period (usually 24 to 48 hours), you will return the device to our center. The electrodes will be removed, and the data will be analyzed by our cardiologists.
What to Expect During and After Holter Monitoring
- During Monitoring: The device is generally comfortable and unobtrusive. You may experience some minor skin irritation from the electrodes, but this should resolve quickly after removal.
- Daily Activities: Continue with your normal activities, but avoid activities that could interfere with the device, such as heavy sweating or getting the monitor wet.
- After Monitoring: The recorded data will be reviewed by a cardiologist who will interpret the results and discuss the findings with you. Based on the analysis, your cardiologist may recommend further testing or adjustments to your treatment plan.
